Six Themed Photos

My Theme is based around the equestrian world. Through these photos I wanted to demonstrate the power, beauty, and unique nature of horses, as well as the areas equestrians spend much of their lives. This is a theme that I very closely relate to since I own a horse and ride regularly, this is a huge part of my life and it is something that not many people experience, and that is why I chose it as my theme.

"Eye Of The  Beholder"

Horses are often seen as animals due to there huge size. Horses are often extremely gentle, given the opportunity and love the deserve. This calm nature is best seen through their eyes. I love the focus and clarity I got on the eye when taking this photo, and the simple background works well with this

"Hungry Hungry Horsey"

Horses will do anything to get to food , especially if it is right in front of them. Next time I would try off centering the horse a tad, and stand back a little, but overall the composition is good. I like the contrast of the colors, the vibrancy of the grass and the focal point of the horse leading to the body.

" Look Between The Ears "

In riding you always need to be looking forward, and a common way to get beginner riders used to this concept is to tell them to " look between the ears ". I really liked how this photo turned out, especially with the bokeh. Like all photos with animals and horses in general, this photo wasn't planned at all, but I personally think the composition turned out really well, and that the clarity, contrast, and focus turned out well.

" The Barn "

The barn is where many equestrians and equines spend most their time, because it is where you tack up, sometimes feed, where horses rest, where equipment is stored and more. During the day it is a struggle to photograph inside, and ensure you have a large range of properly exposed details. Therefore I used the HDR technique to achieve the dynamic range in this photo. Next time I would create a better focal point, but overall I like this photo and think it has good contrast exposure, clarity, and vibrancy.

" Play  Time "

This is a standardbred horse in training to race, meaning he is hopefully going to race pulling a "cart". It is important for young horses especially, but all horses really to get play time outside. When the do get outside they will roll but it is difficult to get a photo. I am proud that I achieved taking this photo with good exposure, focus, and composition

" Barn Cat "

The Barn cat is a common staple to any stable because of their ability to deter pests. The barn cat can be seen in various areas around the farm often travelling around on fences. I like the sharp focus on the face and the cool perspective in the photo. But next time I would try to have a less distracting background.
